1 Updates on Gus from Grandparent Day Care!

Everyday I take Gus to Grandparent Day Care for socialization while I am at work! This is an email that my mom wrote me when I was out of town over Spring Break! The email was titled "New Habits of Gus" . . . can we only imagine how my parents are going to be when Nate and I have kids??!!!!

starting last night and repeating tonight: dad has gone to bed before me, and i have stayed up later. gus remained in the hall (PERHAPS GUARDING THE DOOR?) until i came to the computer, then he has remained in the family room until lights go out, and only then does he head in front of me (he knows the drill) to the bedroom and onto his mat.

starting about this month: GUS DOES NOT LIKE COLD RAINY WEATHER (that is nothing new). PREVIOUSLY, HE WILLINGLY HAS GONE TO HIS HOUSE ON COLD, COLD DAYS, ETC., WHENEVER I LEAVE. NOW THIS MONTH, HE MAKES HIS OWN DECISION IN REGARD TO WHETHER OR NOT TO REMAIN INDOORS IN HIS HOUSE, WHEN I LEAVE. I AM WORKING MYSELF OUT OF A JOB, WHICH IS WHAT THE BOOKS SAY, RIGHT? and so.... today on my first outing he went outside, but when i left the second time, he did not even go near the back door. when he heard the keys, he went to his house. it was more cold and more wet, he knew it, and he is getting older now and knew that his house would be the wiser choice. (NOTE: when he goes in his house and sits down faster than i can close his door, he is so totally comfortable with his surroundings. isn't he getting to be a big boy?) making wise choices are so important as we get older. but even earlier in this month, i will open the door for him to go out, b/c i am leaving, (he always knows when i am leaving), AND HE WILL JUST LOOK AT ME. THAT MEANS A NO-GO. SO I ASK HIM WHICH HE WOULD LIKE TO DO, AND THEN HE VOTES FOR HIS HOUSE. (this does not happen on pretty days.) of course, i would not give gus a choice on decisions that are greater than his maturity level. but these tonight, i feel that he has reached the stage of being able to handle it.

continuing to observe all behavior,

mom

p.s. he really likes the laundry room in the new house so much better than your bedroom in the old house. IT IS A SOCIAL THING, I AM SURE.
